 Description

Start your crochet journey with an easy, satisfying project — a set of soft coasters!
They work up quickly, use only a small amount of yarn, and make perfect gifts or stash-busters.

 Materials

  • Medium-weight cotton yarn (any color)

  • 4 mm crochet hook

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

 Stitches Used

  • Chain (ch)

  • Single crochet (sc)

  • Half-double crochet (hdc)

  • Slip stitch (sl st)

 Steps Overview

  1. Foundation: Chain 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring.

  2. Round 1: Work 10 sc into the ring. Join with sl st.

  3. Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around (20 sts). Join.

  4. Round 3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st repeat around. Join.

  5. Round 4: Optional border — alternate colors or finish with a row of sc.

  6. Fasten off, weave in ends, and block flat.

 Pro Tip

Switch colors every other round for cheerful stripes.
Make a matching trivet by continuing rounds until it’s about 6 inches wide.
